VCC members enlightened on how to prevent cholera

Kumasi, Nov 10, GNA - The Ashanti Region Branch of the Voltarians Co-coordinating Council (VCC) on Wednesday organized a one-day seminar on the dangers of cholera and how to either reduce its occurrence or its prevention.

The seminar that was attended by 25 members of the council formed part of activities marking the celebration of the Amu Za Festival of people of the Volta Region residing in the Ashanti Region scheduled for December 10 in Kumasi.

The Amu Za Festival will be celebrated for the first time in the Ashanti Region with the aim of enhancing unity amongst Voltarians. Addressing the seminar in Kumasi Miss Othilia Kuzorli, Treasurer of the VCC, said cholera should not be taken for granted since in recent times, the disease has accounted for the death of many people in the Kumasi Metropolis.

She said cholera was a disease that could be avoided if only people were prepared to keep their environment tidy and abide by personal hygiene.

Miss Kuzorli, who works at the Public Relations Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), advised them to go beyond personal hygiene and ensure that foods they consume are heated.

Torgbui S.K. Fugah, the Chairman of the VCC, advised members who cook food for sale to the public to go for regular medical check ups and certification. He said by doing this, food sellers would be in a position to safeguard the lives of their customers.
