In an effort to help reduce infant mortality in Ghana, telecommunication giant, Vodafone Ghana, has donated two incubators to the Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital at Dormaa in the Brong Ahafo Region to improve the health of new-born babies.
The incubators will assist the hospital to effectively manage the increasing number of premature births recorded at the health facility every year.
Commenting on the philanthropic gesture, Nana Yaa Ofori Koree, Foundation and Sustainability Manager at Vodafone Ghana, said the statistics available indicate that infant mortality is alarming countrywide, especially in rural areas.
She said, “The situation requires corporate Ghana to step in to help improve the situation.”
Ms Koree added that Vodafone was passionate about championing health issues, hence the donation to relieve the anxiety of health professionals at the hospital and parents who have to care for pre-term babies.
She indicated that Vodafone had implemented ingenious initiatives like Healthfest, Healthline, Healthline 255, blood donation exercise, among others, to give back to the communities where their staff live and work.
Receiving the incubators, Dr Isaac Appiah, General Manager of the Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital, said the donation was timely and would be put to good use.
He expressed the hospital’s appreciation to Vodafone’s incredible gesture as he called on other corporate institutions to emulate the shining example of Vodafone.
