Wa, Dec. 22, GNA. - The Wa Municipal Assembly has decided to sponsor 10 midwives in various training institutions annually for the next five years in an effort to achieve zero tolerance for maternal deaths in the Municipality.
The Assembly will also construct a mother's hostel at the regional hospital in Wa for the detention of women with high risk pregnancies and engage the services of the National Ambulance Service on contract basis to transport pregnant women to the hospital.
These interventions were underlying the fact that the continuous rise in maternal and infant mortality was threatening the collective resolve to achieve the Millennium Development Goals four and five in the Municipality.
