The Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burns Centre(RPSBC), of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has appealed to corporate entities and philanthropists for support to rehabilitate the three-storey intensive care unit building, and also help it retool the centre to a befitting status.
Kasapafmonline.com following this has gathered that the National Petroleum Authority(NPA) is offering to give the centre at least 1 million Ghana cedis to upgrade and complete some infrastructure projects at the facility.
Data have shown that injuries and deaths from burns-related accidents have spiralled since 2011. This is partly because of the poorly equipped Burns Centre.
Dr Opoku Ware Ampomah, Director of the centre says considering the vital role the institution plays in health care delivery of the country, and the sub-region, it will need more resources to boost service delivery, and make it a first-class Burns centre.
The Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burns Centre is the only Centre of its kind in the West African Sub-region.
