Madam Priscilla Mensah, a senior meteorologist at the Kotoka International Airport, has advised the Ghanaian public to prioritise using face masks to prevent infections.

She explained that the harmattan and its dusty nature are heading from the northeast and the Sahara region.

The expert warned the public to prepare for more dusty weather until the end of February or the first week of March 2025.

Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the weather constitution is severe compared to last year.

“We will experience dusty situations, and so we encourage the public, particularly those who sell food along these trees, to cover their food to prevent it from being contaminated.

The weather conditions will continue until February or the first week of March 2025. We are also encouraging Ghanaians to adopt the use of face masks to prevent them from getting infected with colds and catarrh” she said.

When asked if this may have any impact on air travel or flight operations, she answered in the affirmative.

“Visibility is very bad, but flights can still operate. We’ve not gotten to the point where we have to cease flights from taking off. When it is necessary, we will issue an advisory for them to take note. But for now, flights can operate.”
