Resident Family Doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, Dr. Kennedy Korankye and Dr. Nana Kofi Edu Affare have revealed that the consumption of cannabis is somewhat healthier than tobacco.
They indicate that persons who consume cannabis otherwise known as Indian hemp are not prone to diabetics as compared to those who smoke tobacco taking into account the amount of carcinogens contained in them.
According to the two health experts , weed has medicinal values and in some cases used in pain management as compared to tobacco which has about 16 cancer causing agents.
Speaking on the Ultimate Breakfast Show hosted by Lantam Papanko, they warned that the psychological effect of cannabis makes it dangerous to consumers despite its health benefits.
“People, who take cannabis, will gradually graduate into taking other narcotic agents. Consequently most of them end up in the psychiatric hospitals. Some of them smoke it because it rewards the brain that causes happiness and a particular euphoria ”, they explained.
They warned that smoking generally is a dangerous phenomenon because certain chemicals are released causing gaseous exchange which cumulatively affects all organs in the body of the smoker.
Cohort effects, addictive effects and peer pressure they emphasized coupled with well packaged advertisements from tobacco companies is believed to have pushed many into smoking.
The claim that smoking of either weed or tobacco keeps the smokers more relaxed, calm their nerves, make them sleep better and manage their weight are all myths because which cannot be medically proven.
