On Friday, November 29th, the Yilo Krobo Municipal Health Directorate inaugurated its networks of practice within the municipality, marking an important step towards increasing access to quality essential health care and population-based services for all by 2030. The initiative was launched in two phases, beginning with the Nkurakan Health Center and subsequently Bukunor Health Center.
During the event, the Municipal Director of Health Services, Mrs. Irina Ofei, highlighted the Directorate's shared commitment to enhancing access to quality healthcare for its communities. The Ghana Health Service (GHS) is excited to introduce the "Network of Practice," an initiative to foster transformative improvements in Ghana's healthcare delivery system. This initiative is in line with the global commitment to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC), as outlined in the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established in 2015.
She asserted that the system actively promotes a robust partnership among sub-district health facilities and designated model health centres. The model health centre is pivotal, delivering essential support to nearby CHPS compounds and private facilities, thereby providing additional resources and expertise that enhance the entire network. This collaborative approach guarantees that patients transition seamlessly from CHPS compounds to the health centre and, when needed, to district hospitals.
The District Health Director also emphasised that comprehensive training has been provided to healthcare workers in the two sub-districts, coupled with active collaboration with stakeholders at the district level. These initiatives were designed to communicate the new policy effectively, ensuring that everyone is well-informed and ready for its rollout.
In conclusion, Mrs. Irina Ofei emphasized the importance of the Ghana Health Service's collective efforts in driving significant progress towards the goal of ensuring that every person has access to the crucial healthcare services they require and rightfully deserve.
She expressed a strong sense of hope and determination, highlighting that through collaboration, the GHS can pave the way for a healthier future for everyone in our community. "Together, we have the power to transform lives and create a more equitable healthcare landscape for all individuals," she said.
World Aids Day
Also at the launching ceremony was the Municipal HIV Focal Person, Miss Rita Owusu Bediako. She took the opportunity to address the gathering on World Aids Day, which is observed annually on December 1st.
Speaking on the theme, ‘Take the right path: My Health, My Right,’ she stated that meaningful engagement of young people is an unassailable strategy for achieving comprehensive uptake of quality services by young people. She added that it is essential that peer-driven and meaningful engagement of young people is facilitated, and that young people are empowered to take centre stage in accessing services in line with global standards and best practices for high-quality adolescent-friendly and responsive health services.
