A double from Elizabeth Opoku was enough to save the day for the female hockey team of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to win the 2018 Greater Accra Hockey Association (GAHA) knockouts.
The Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium was the venue of attraction last Saturday when hundreds of hockey fans thronged the stadium to witness the fireworks between the GRA Ladies and their arch-rivals Police Ladies.
The game ended 3-1 with Lydia Afriyie scoring GRA Ladies’ opening goal for Opoku to add her double for a convincing win.
The two teams played in the preliminary stage a fortnight ago which ended in a draw and again met in the finals last weekend and GRA proved superior over their rivals.
This trophy makes it a double for the GRA Ladies team, also known as the ‘Royal Ladies’ after they went unbeaten to win this season’s Sapholda league.
In the men’s division, GRA Men also reciprocated their ladies’ performance in the competition, beating Exchequers from Bank of Ghana 4-3 on penalties. The game ended 2-2 after full time regulation.
The competition formed part of training sessions for Ghana’s representative in this year’s Africa Cup for Club Championships to be held in Nigeria come December.
Other winners on the day were Real Ambassadors who won youth category of the competition after beating Team Manhean 3-1.
Meanwhile, Citizens International will next week face Golden Sticks from GCB Bank in the seniors’ category of the competition.
