Ghana prepares to host the rest of the continent

Accra, March 2, GNA - The Ghana Hockey Association (GHA) is fine-tuning its itinerary to host the rest of the continent for the "Continental Development Workshop" at a date yet be announced. The workshop, one of the African Hockey Federation's (AHF) biggest event, would brainstorm on some of the new policies intended to be introduced including the proposed new system of qualifying for Cup of Nations.
Ghana was selected by the Federation in Pretoria last October at a special congress during the final day of the Hockey Cup of Nations to stage the showpiece in February, this year, but it has been delayed because the GHA is still liaising with other sister associations on the continent for a suitable date. Oko Nii Koi Dzani, Chairman of the GHA told the GNA Sports in Accra on Wednesday that he could only confirm the date after he had heard from the "rest".
The main criteria used were Ghana's active role in the governance of the sport on the continent, her good organizational acumen and the level at which the game has improved even without a water-based astro turf. Both the International Hockey Federation and the AHF have also declared their willingness to add their weight to the GHA's negotiation with government for a new water-based astro turf. The two bodies will give technical direction as how the pitch is to be constructed to meet international standards.
