The Ghana Hockey Team has called on the state to invest in the country’s team and activities to ensure that the sport is promoted.

The team which took part in the just ended 2017 Hockey Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt chalked a remarkable feat with both the female and male teams bagging silver and bronze medals respectively.

Assessing the team’s performance in the game, coach of the Ghana Hockey Team, Mr. Ebenezer Frimpong said, “the team has improved both technically and tactically” after a number of failed attempts and this time “every player was motivated to do his maximum best” at the recent tournament.

Captain of the Ghanaian side, Salya Nsalbin who reiterated his boss’ words also noted that commitment on the side of the players contributed immensely to the achievements recorded.

He maintained that “we realized that we have a lot to give to Ghana and looking at this tournament we were able to play our maximum best.”

He made this remarks while speaking on “The Pulse” on JoyNews Wednesday, November 1 with host, Gary Al-Smith.

Nsalbin held that the team’s tolerance level and tactical improvement should be credited moving forward to enhance better performance.

“Normally when we meet Egypt and South Africa the goals are a lot now we are able to play tactically very well and also we were able to listen to our coach who strategized everything for us and it worked for us.

Speaking however on the challenges facing the Hockey community in Ghana, Salya Nsalbin petitioned government to disburse resources for the team, to help sustain it.

“Government should invest in us because if you don’t there is nothing for us to fight for,” he said.

Adding that, “once you sacrifice your own time to play for the nation you need to be awarded.”
