The 2015/16 Ghana Premier League kicks off today Saturday February 20, 2016 across all league centres in the country.
Despite attempts to place an injunction on the league by Berekum Arsenal and also by Real Athletico (division one club) supporter, Babia Alhassan, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) insists the competition will start.
Mr Alhassan, an ardent supporter of Division One club Real Athletico claimed he had secured an injunction on the league because he was not satisfied with the ruling on the case involving Tema Youth and Dreams FC. However, officials of Real Athletico have said they had not asked him to request an injunction on the league and even disowned him.
Berekum Arsenals, on the other hand, want all outstanding issues settled before the league kicks off. The club believe Techiman City, after being demoted to play in the third-tier league, had no locus playing in the league.
However, news broke on February 19, barely 24 hours to the start of the season that the Appeals Committee of the GFA had overturned the decision of the Ethics Committee to demote Techiman City FC, which makes them eligible to compete in the GPL.
The GFA has gone ahead to name the referees and other match officials for the opening week’s matches of the league on Saturday.
Saturday's big kick off is between the Porcupine Warriors, Asante Kotoko, and WAFA at Sogakope while the defending champions Ashgold play host to Medeama in Obuasi.
