Accra, May 19, GNA - Bechem United took a giant leap towards qualification for the Premier League when they thrashed Bazooka FC 5-1 in their Zone One Middle League clash on Thursday at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra.
A first half brace from Issah Adamu and goals from Ransford Cudjoe, Emmanuel Allan and Evans Osei were enough to put Bechem United's premiers= hip ambitions on course.
After a false start in their opener last week, the Bechem lads displayed an improved output, making clear their intent to dine with the big guns of Ghana football at the elite division.
Bechem United led 3-1 at half time making the most of their counter moves as well as capitalizing on the leaking defence of Wa-based Bazooka FC. On nine minutes, Adamu broke the deadlock with a spectacular half volley from close range after a mix-up by the Bazooka defence.
It was the turn of Bazooka three minutes later but Sadiq Ibrahim was unlucky after his curling shot ricocheted off the crossbar to the relief of their opponents.
On the quarter-hour mark, Bechem United went on the counter again and the move yielded the second goal. Allan weaved his way past his markers, fetched Cudjoe who laid a perfect pass back to Adamu to fire past Bazooka goalie Ishmael Karim whose anticipation was faulty.
Bazooka pulled one back through Sadiq on 29 minutes but Cudjoe qucikly restored the two-goal lead a minute later.
The second half saw a balanced game from both teams with a lift in the performance of Bazooka FC.
However it was Bechem United's midfielder Allan who scored the fourth goal on 79 minutes with a curling free-kick at the edge of the penalty area that caught Bazooka goalie Karim off guard.
With Bechem United coasting to a a convincing win, substitute Osei sealed victory by heading home from a throw-in two minutes from time. Meanwhile in a related match, Guan United and Unity FC played out a 2-2 draw in the Zone One match at the Tema Stadium.
Bechem United have four points, Bazooka on three points, with Unity FC and Guan United with two points and one point respectively.
