Faisal hold B.A United at Sunyani

Sunyani (B/A), Oct. 13 GNA - Visiting Kumasi King Faisal drew nil-nil with home boys B.A. United in their Zone "A" northern sector mid-week Premier league match at the Sunyani Coronation park on Wednesday.

It was the last pairing of the Premier league in the group and the only point won by B.A United in their group.

The poor performance of Takoradi-based Class One Referee, Fred K. Bassaw and his two assistant referees, S.C. Baiden and Mohammed Awal both Class One Referees based in Tamale however marred the beauty of the game as players resorted to kicking each other instead of playing the ball.

The shameful performance of referee Bassaw came to the fore in the 80th minute when one of the United's defenders, Alex Odenkey tore the jersey of enterprising Eric Gawu of King Faisal during one of the latter's dangerous incursions at goal but surprisingly neither the referee nor his assistnt on line one seemed to have seen the serious infringement.

As a result of the bad interception by Odenkey, Gawu was dispossessed of the ball and it was little wonder when he politely went to the referee to show his torn jersey, after the ball had been kicked out of touch by Odenkey.

United nearly shot into the lead just three minute of the start of the game but goalkeeper Mohammed Suraju in goal for Faisal made a perfect save of the attempt.

United kept squandering goal-scoring chances from thence but Alhaji Grusah's boys gradually warmed themselves into the game to repulse the attempts at goal.

They mounted pressure on United and in the 17th minute goalkeeper Neequaye Charles save a closed-range shot by Sumaila Nyaaya. Sensing danger, United made their first substitution in the 33rd minute when Yaw Kyeremeh came in for Twum Baiden while Ofori Michael also replaced Nyaaya in the 38th minute.

The first yellow card of the match was shown to King Faisal's Hamza Mohammed for rough play just before the end of the first half. The supporters of United apparently not satisfied with the performance of their own players rushed onto the arena immediately the whistle went for the recess to register their protest.

When the referee signaled for the resumption of the second half, Yahuza Abubakari of Faisal also attracted the referee's yellow card for rough play in the 52nd minute while Odenkey of United also followed suit with a yellow card for a similar offence with goalkeeper Neequaye also receiving a card for brutally kicking substitute Michael Ofosu just outside the "18" yard box.
