Former African Champions League campaigners Berekum Chelsea were amused, bemused and overall mesmerized by the venom of newly promoted Techiman City Football Club (TCFC) at the Nana Ameyaw Park (The Den) in their opening match of the 2015/2015 Ghana Premier League (GPL).
Despite the attempts from key personalities in the circles of Ghana football to cut short the dream of TCFC and the people of the Brong Ahafo north to taste the GPL, the Brong Ahafo based club proved to all and sundry why the Ghana Premier League would have been tasteless without the ‘Brotherhood’ club.
After a highly competitive but scoreless first half, Techiman City lifted their game to the highest degree to wrestle a deserving win late in the second half through former Chelsea striker Ibrahim Issaka.
At the Accra Sports Stadium, New Edubiase United could not neutralize Kenichi Yatsuhashi’s ‘sushi’ style of play as they fell 0-1 to the former continental club masters courtesy Samuel Yeboah’s 77th minute goal.
The Phobian’s were the better side on the day, thanks to the metaphoric Mustapha Essuman who calmed the situation in the midfield allowing their new kid on the block, Samudeen Ibrahim to toy around with the ball.
New Edubiase United did not cause any havoc in the game. In fact, Hearts of Oak goalie, Soulaima Ibrahim made only a save throughout the entire 90 minutes.
The Phobian’s controlled the game but they lacked the piercing passes that could connect their strikers in the attacking third of the pitch until the young and talented Mensah (Ashaiman Messi) was brought on in the second half and it was one of his tricks that paved the way for Sam Yeboah to score the only goal of the match.
At the Len Clay stadium in Obuasi, soccer miners AshGold FC won 2-1 over Ghana Super Cup winners Medeama Sporting Club.
