Glo clinches Premiership rights

Accra, Dec 23, GNA - Cellular Communication giants, Globacom Ghana has clinched the title rights of the Ghana Premier League after they doled out 15 million dollars for the competition that pits together 16 teams.

The five-year deal worth three million dollars annually remains the biggest sponsorship the League has received since its inception. Mr. Olabode Opeiseitan, Head of Public Relations of Glo Ghana who announced the package in Accra on Tuesday said the deal was meant to reward Ghanaians for their unflinching love and passion for the globular leather.

He said his outfit's thirst to build a fabulous communication brand as from January has seen them plan extensively about ways to help keep Ghana's football on the ascendancy.

"This is just the beginning of our good intention for Ghana. We will be there for football every step along the way." Kwesi Nyantakyi, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) described the deal as historic and underscored the fact that soccer has undergone great transformation in the country.

He said the GFA settled on Glo due to several factors which, includes the fact that the deal was mutually beneficial. The President of the FA said the Association underwent series of consultations before opting for the agreement which mandates all the 16 Clubs to emboss a "Glo" sticker at the back of their jerseys. Nyantakyi said Glo would solely be entitled to pitch panels at the stadia and also enjoy the opportunity of "branding" buses of the team's as part of the leverages prospect pieced together for the sponsors. The GFA has already received fifty percent of the three million sponsorship deal for the four-week old season and the FA President is convinced Glo would replicate their professionalism exhibited elsewhere to the country's Premiership.

Globacom also sponsors the Nigerian Premier League.
