Hooliganism galore at Mpraeso

Mpraeso, Oct 13, GNA - The seventh week Premier league match between Okwawu United and Real Tamale United (RTU) at the Mpraeso Brigthons Park ended abruptly with four minutes left of play. This was after an unidentified spectator rushed onto the field and landed a heavy blow on the head of Asante Mampong-based referee, Alhasan Brobbey.

Whilst the referee was receiving treatment from officials of the Red Cross, his first assistant, Boadu Ayeboafor was also hit with a missile from the stands apparently by other supporters. Hell however broke lose when the officials decided to discontinue the game citing their insecurity.

The home supporters invaded the pitch in an apparent attempt to attack the match officials, a situation which took heavily armed soldiers and their counterparts from the Police Service to fire four warning shots before whisking away referee Brobby and his colleagues in a Police vehicle.

The home fans took the law into their hands after the referee ignored what they regarded as a perfect goal when substitute Nasiru Ghani's shot seemingly crossed the line at a time his second assistant, John Obuobisa had ruled it a goal for the home team. Before the incident, Abubakari Yussif and Alhassan Weah from Okwawu and RTU had scored for their sides in the 42nd and 51st minutes respectively.
