King Faisal - Obuasi Goldfields 5-2

In Kumasi, King Faisal mauled visiting Obuasi Goldfields 5-2 in their match played at the Kumasi sports stadium. Faisal had the opener in the 13th minute through Kwadwo Poku who after receiving a pass put the ball at the blind side of goalkeeper Abubakari Kankani while his defenders were caught napping. Godwin Ablordey increased the tally to two through a spot kick in the 23rd minute when Kofi Amoako in a bid to save a situation handled the ball. Goalkeeper Kankani who looked confused and jittery in the 44th minute kicked the ball straight to Eric Gawu who was lurking just around the vital area of Goldfields, and the attacker shot the ball pass him for the third goal.

Goldfields, however, pulled a goal back through Shaibu Yakubu on the stroke of the first half when he capitalised on a defensive blunder, beat two defenders in a row and planted the ball in the net. Back from recess, Faisal continued their onslaught but Ablordey and Eric Gawu failed to capitalise on good chances that came their way. In the 62nd minute, Faisal's goalkeeper Mohammed Suraji failed to grab a shot in the first time and Eric Boakye who was hovering around pounced on it to score Goldfields' second goal. Goldfields then came strongly into the picture but suffered a serious set back when defender Eric Boakye fouled Kwabena Poku in the penalty box in the 69th minute and Ablordey again scored from the resultant kick for Faisal's fourth goal. Goalkeeper Kankani scored an own goal in the 75th minute when in an attempt to block Gawu's shot deflected the ball into his own the net.
