Wa, U/W) June 26, GNA - Kumasi Asante Kotoko showed their supremacy over Wa All Stars by recording a 2-0 victory when they played one of the finest games ever watched by football fans at the Wa Municipality since the Onetouch Premier league begun.
It was a match in which all the players of Kotoko played a committed game combining good ball control, accurate and short passes, expert clearance of aerial balls and above all good understanding in their rescheduled encounter on Thursday at the Wa stadium that saw some
supporters of All Stars cheering the Kotoko lads.
The game started on a fast note with All Stars threatening at the early stages of the game to score an early goal as they earned a corner kick just under two minutes but the strikers failed to utilize it. Kotoko took up the challenge and marshaled themselves into the Stars half with Eric Bekoe and Kwabena Yaro leading the attack. The defenders of All Stars decided to concentrate their attention on Bekoe which gave way for Yaro to register the first goal for Kotoko in the 17th minute.
The All Stars keeper, Sumani Moro failed to make a first time grab of Bekoe's shot but punched the ball back into play only for a hovering Yaro to have an easy task of kicking the ball into an empty net. The goal turned the stadium and the partisan home supporters into dead silence.
Daniel Bonsah of Stars in the 34th minute should have equalized for his side but he blew the chance away to the displeasure of the teeming supporters.
Yaro also wasted a chance in the 37th minute to increase his side's goal tally with Daniel Sakodie also missing narrowly in the 42nd minute. All Stars came strongly in the dying minutes of the first half and nearly got the equaliser but Afful Harrison was on target to scoop the ball from the goal line to safety in the 44th minute to bring the half to an end.
Back from recess, All Stars made three substitutions to strengthen their attack but it was Kotoko who rather profited as they took advantage a defensive blunder to register the second goal through Yaro in the 63rd minute.
Bekoe should have made it three for his side but his attempt at goal saw the ball missing the goal narrowly.
The dust cast on the home team when Bonsah again failed to score a consolation goal for All Stars after Eric Nii Baah chested the ball his way but the striker shot over the bar before referee Nathaniel Plange brought proceedings to an end with the supporters doubting the survival of the team with the remaining matches of the league. 26 June 08
