Lions worsen the plight of Olympics

Accra, Oct. 3, GNA - Accra Great Olympics on Sunday experienced its third successive defeat in Zone "B" of the National Premier League when they lost by a lone goal to visiting Heart of Lions at the Accra Sports Stadium. The Homowo Champions are thus stacked to the bottom of the table with two points from seven matches whilst Lions are placed second on the table with 13 points.

A crusty first half saw the two sides battling each other in midfield in a struggle to gain supremacy in the game but failing to penetrate each other's territory. In spite of this situation, it was the home team who had the brightest opportunity to score from Ismail Mohamed's volley but Lions goalie, Morzart Adjetey made a brilliant save in the 44th minute to conclude the half on a barren note.

The "Dade boys" on resumption of the second half, failed to exploit the numerical disadvantage of the visitors following the exit of Heart of Lions Obed Ansah in the 47th minute after a second bookable offence but the Jacob Nettey led defence of Lions thwarted all the efforts of Olympics at finding the opener. Nettey, captain of the year 2000 victorious squad of Hearts of Oak who has been away for over a year as a result of injury, combined effectively with Yaw Nyarko and Satellite overlapping defender Haminu Dramani to form a shield around Lions vital area making it impenetrable for the home team.

As both sides continued to blow up series of scoring chances it was the visitors who had the last laugh in the 83rd minute from their key striker, Samuel Yeboah. Yeboah, a constant threat to the defence of Olympics throughout the game took advantage of a misunderstanding between keeper John Adjetey and defenders David Kabu and Jefferson Nii Boye to score the winning goal for his side after lobbing the ball over the two defenders. Olympics fought hard to level up when they had their last minute effort through a curling free-kick from the foot of substitute Seth Konadu but the kick was beautifully saved by Lions goalie in the 90th minute to end the day.
