Accra, June 25, GNA -The relegation blues of Accra Great Olympics was deepened after they relinquished an early lead to draw one all with Berekum Arsenal with only two games to conclude the Premier League season at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra on Wednesday.
Olympics, requiring a win to give their relegation survival ambition some amount of meaning, however laboured for most part of the duel to at the end draw the game that lacked some shine.
The "Wonder Club" playing in an almost empty stadium gave the couple of their supporters who had patronized the game a false sense of hope when Mohammed Sherif shot them ahead five minutes into the game. Sherif took a solo ran just in front of the visitors penalty box from a set up that came from the right flank before beautifully planting the ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper Ishahaku Shaibu. The quick action was however to switch immediately as Arsenal became the beneficiaries.
Arsenal held dominance with a goal beckoning with their every move but the "Gunners" sense of inaccuracy upfront remained the glaring reason why they were unable to pull even before the break. The visitors resumed the better side from recess and it took individual brilliance of goalkeeper Benjamin Mensah to keep Olympics still cruising.
Keeper Mensah stood between Arsenal and an instant equalizer with gallant saves that left the visitor's equalizer temporally on hold. After pulling a great save on the 52nd minute to keep the scores unchanged, keeper Mensah was unable to thwart Eric Asiedu's attempt at goal seven minutes on.
Asiedu tore away from his markers deep in the midfield with an amazing speed before squeezing the ball past the advancing goalie to put the game on level terms.
Olympics from then tried to stage a fight to win the day but the depth of Arsenals' strength which laid deep in their midfield ensured that the homers could only churn out just a handful of chances which they were unable to convert.
With the game nearing conclusion, Arsenal grew stronger but their authority could not be translated into goals as goalkeeper Mensah stayed in his element to gift Olympics a point.
