At Tema Sports stadium, Power F/C played a determined game to beat Kumasi King Faisal 1-0 in their GT Premier League match.
It was King Faisal who ironically dominated the early exchanges but due to poor finishing upfront they failed to take the lead as Eric Gawu found his first time shot missing the target narrowly in the sixth minute.
Kwabena Yaro of Power F/C was put through in the 18th minute but he also saw his terrific shot missing the target.
Both teams piled pressure on each other in search of the leader but their attackers could not find the net till the end of the half half.
Yaro, however, atoned for his earlier misses to score the only goal of the match in the 47th minute for Power.
King Faisal's pair of Abubakari Yahuza and Eric Gawu combined effectively and came close to scoring on several occasions but superb goalkeeping by Alfred Mills in goal for Power robbed them of the equalizer.
With defeat starring at them, King Faisal doubled their efforts and had the golden opportunity to equalise in the 75th minute but Eric Gawu with only goalkeeper Mills to beat, shot off target.
Thomas Mensah of Power was adjudged the best player of the match.
Okwawu United lost three vital home points when they were beaten 2-1 by Ashantigold in the GT Premier League match at the Nkawkaw Park on Sunday.
Okwawu took control of the game at the slippery park after a five-hour downpour, which made ball control difficult and managed to take the lead in the 10th minute when Issaka Ibrahim's shot beat keeper Fatawu Dauda in post for Ashantigold.
The AshGold attackers made up of Emmanuel Osei Kuffour, Ofosu Amoah (Tico Tico) and Opoku Agyemang of Starlets fame, after the goal exerted pressure on Okwawu in search of the needed equaliser but the Okwawu defence foiled all their efforts at goal.
After the recess, AshGold doubled their efforts and scored two quick goals in the 55th and 60th minutes through Osei Kuffour and Amoah. In the 68th and 70th minutes, FIFA Referee Joseph Lamptey flashed his yellow card to AshGold's Tony Baffoe and Osei Kuffour for rough tackling in an effort to stamp his authority on the game.
Both teams exhausted their substitutions but the changes benefited AshGold as their defence foiled all the efforts made by the Okwawu attackers in search of the much-needed equalizer that never came their way till the end of proceedings.
