Accra, Dec 12, GNA - A goal in each half ensured the defending league champions, Accra Hearts of Oak earned their first victory in the third week Premier League match against Sekondi Hasaacas at the El Wak Stadium on Wednesday.
In a game which saw none of the sides proving too dominant, it was Hearts who made the best out of the situation in the 21st minute from a Francis Bossman's well executed free-kick.
The midfielder who was just a few meters outside the penalty box, connected with a shot that deflected against the goal post before dropping into the net to set the Phobians on the victory path and a sigh of relieve to their fans.
The goal did not however change the unexciting nature of the game as both sides struggled to find their rhythm till the 41st minute when Eric Cantona of Hasaacas had a perfect opportunity to level up the scores but shot across the goal post to end the half.
The second half was not all that different from the first but it was still the Phobians who made the best out of events and managed to increase the tally in the 82nd minute through Eric Gawu. Lurking around the "16" yard box, Gawu capitalized on Hasaacas goalkeeper Joseph Addo's inability to make a first time grab of substitute Reuben Senyo's shot to bury the ball in the net for the insurance goal of the Phobians.
Even though there was positive response from Hasaacas, series of indecisions on the part of their strikers denied them any consolation goal till the end of proceedings.
