Ghana’s Premier League breaks new sponsorship limits this year with title rights and media rights expected to yield a minimum GH¢1.87 million (¢18.7 billion), an all-time high.
The amount is the total expected from Ghana Telecom which sponsored the league under the banner of its celular network, Onetouch, and Gateway Broadcasting services (GBS) who hold the title rights and media rights respectively.
While the contract with Onetouch raised the sponsorship package to GH¢1.87 million (¢18.7 billion) in its second year, GBS which beams selected matches live on its network, particularly across Africa, will pay the Ghana Football Association (GFA) $1 million for the next season.
GFA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, said the separate contracts existing between his outfit and the two companies have led to the financial relief expected for the next Premier League.
By the contract between GFA and Onetouch, the sponsorship package of GH¢1.7 million (¢17 billion) for last year rises by 10 per cent for this year, while GBS which paid $750,000 for media rights for the last league will pay $1 million this year.
