Ruthless Hearts stun Chelsea

Accra giants Hearts of Oak have given a boost to their top-four finish after a 3-0 walloping of leaders Berekum Chelsea in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

The Blues could not find an answer to the Phobians at the Accra Sports Stadium despite their imposing display even with a man down.

It was striker Gilbert Fiamenyo who gave a voice to the home crowd after his 21st minute header and within three minutes doubled the lead of the Phobians.

The 2011-12 Caf Champions League campaigners kept the pressure on coach David Duncan’s charges, but the home side’s goalkeeper Tetteh Luggard was a barrier to their goal.

The scoreline remained the same into the interval.

Chelsea returned from the recess more determined to overturn the deficit, however, their final touches were not clinical to threaten the Phobian rear.

They continued to push more men up, but were at a disadvantage after a player was sent off to give Hearts the numerical gain. The visitors continued to mount more pressure on the home side but their efforts yielded no positive results.

With six minutes to end proceedings Hearts captain Mahatma Otoo earned his 16th goal of the season with the final nail on the coffin for the Phobians to move to the 7th position after the 3-0 win.
