Zaytuna hand Liberty their heaviest defeat

Accra, May 28, GNA - Zaytuna United handed Liberty Professionals their heaviest defeat of the season with a 3-1 drubbing on Wednesday in their Week 21 clash of the Onetouch Premier League played at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra.

After an uninspiring first half which saw both teams making few attempts at goal, it was Zaytuna who resumed the second half the more purposeful side.

Striker Nicholas Coffie after making a mess of his side's only chance in the first session on the 35th minute mark made amends two minutes from recess with the opener.

It was rasta-haired midfielder Daniel Larbi who raced past his marker with the ball before laying a perfect pass to Coffie who lobbed it over onrushing goalkeeper Nana Bonsu in postsa for Liberty. The Liberty midfield component of Seidu Yakubu, Evans Frimpong and Mustapha Essuman failed to click and it brought some pressure to bear on the their defence.

Five minutes later, Coffie made it two for Zaytuna when he connected home a rebound after Joseph Masiri's header came off the posts as Bonsu was left rambling in wonderland. Liberty's head coach Cecil Jones Attuquayefio introduced Daniel Yeboah to strengthen his midfield in 57th minute and it nearly paid off for them. In the 66th minute, Yeboah laid a perfect pass to Kofi Nti Boakye who shot pass Zaytuna goalie Tetteh Lugard who had come off his line, but burly defender Osei Bonsu was around to scoop the ball off the goal line to rescue his side from conceding a goal. Seven minutes later, Samuel Yebaoh of Liberty headed home to reduce the tally after Emmanuel Osei's free-kick deflected towards him. Just as Liberty inched closer to their rhythm, the homers sealed victory through substitute Frank Boateng in 76th minute after his free-kick deflected off a Liberty defender David Kabu with keeper Bonsu as usual displaced.
