The National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has said that former President John Dramani Mahama has his reputation tainted with corruption and that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia stands a better chance of winning the election because he has no corruption tag.
According to him, having worked with Dr. Bawumia, he can clearly say that the man has never been involved in any corrupt activity and therefore challenged anyone who has any evidence of corruption against Dr. Bawumia to come forward with it.
He said that the NDC cannot throw a similar challenge on President Mahama's behalf because he has a history of allegations of corruption.
"I am against corruption and a firm advocate for the fight against corruption. I have worked with a man who is not corrupt, and that is why we have thrown the challenge that if anyone has any iota of truth that Dr. Bawumia is involved in any corrupt activity, let them bring it. And to date, of all the things they can say about Dr. Bawumia, they can't say he is corrupt. Because that is his nature," he said.
"He is the first president that has proof of corruption about him. And I am not the one saying it. The crown courts in London point to him as having been complicit in the Airbus scandal. For him, he is super corrupt, he is fantastically corrupt, he is chronically corrupt, and he is overly corrupt. And I am not the one saying it. There is evidence of it on him."
He argued that if President Mahama is the alternative to Dr. Bawumia, then Ghana is doomed.
Salam Mustapha also discredited the recent polls conducted by UK-based Fitch Solutions, which put President Mahama ahead with 54%.
He said that Fitch's report cannot be true because they derive their reports from Global Info Analytics, which has no credibility.
"It's a lie. We have checked with Fitch. They have not done anything. They went and picked data from Musa Dankwah. He has never done any research that is accurate. I am a researcher, so I understand the tenets of research. To say the NDC will win with 99% in Oforikrom is out of place. I don't know which kind of research will bring this outcome," he said.
He described the research report as preposterous and that the NDC has no numbers to win with 54%.
