The Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, recently showed his lyrical prowess at a campaign event in the Eastern Region.

At one of the rallies he held in the region, Mahama accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of attempting to induce the people of Ghana with money to win their support.

The presidential candidate, who was the 4th President of Ghana’s 4th Republic, said that vote-buying schemes by the NPP would not work just like they didn’t during the Assin North by-election.

“I was at Assin North myself. At that time, the GH¢200 had come fresh into the system. People showed their voter ID cards and were given one (of the GH¢200). But the people of Assin North rejected them. They even composed a song for them,” he said Twi.

He then proceeded to sing the song that was used to taunt the NPP parliamentary candidate for the by-election, Charles Opoku.

“Yeedi, yeedi, yeedi ooo, Charles Opoku sika no yeedi,” he sang.

Mahama went on to do a remix, saying, “I’m going to sing the song again, but I’m not going to mention any name. I want you to put the name there.

“Yeedi, yeedi, yeedi ooo, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm.”

The song, which is in the Twi dialect, means that the people took Charles Opoku’s money without voting for him.
