The Electoral Commissioner for Uganda, Anthony Okello has lauded Ghana for its approach towards ensuring a credible fair and transparent election.
In an interview on Election Desk on GhanaWeb TV on December 7, 2024, in his capacity as an observer he noted that the robust verification system safeguards the electoral process, setting an example for other African countries.
"I have been here since the opening of polls, and I want to thank the people of Ghana for their approach they are using. I learnt a lot of interesting facts with my team.
"You see one important aspect that I have picked is that all ballot papers are validated before they are given to voters and I think it enables whatever entries placed in the ballot box to be validated so, at the end of the day if you find a strange ballot paper that is not validated then I think this process brings credibility," he noted.
He further indicated that the Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) prevent unauthorised individuals from voting, reinforcing the integrity of the election.
"I think this is good, because you are relying on the machine for verification, and you want to ensure credibility, and you will not have strangers.
"Those who have not registered in that polling station cannot vote because you verify them using a code which is in the voters register oh probably using the facial of that person and I think this is all very good and it is a talking machine and everybody can hear that person has been validated", he added.
