The Managing Editor for the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt, has questioned the rationale behind the New Patriotic Party’s decision to select Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as its running mate.

Raising concerns about the NPP’s seriousness and commitment to secure enough votes to win the December elections, Kwesi Pratt said he could not fathom why the party would present NAPO, who had been known to make tribalistic and unsavoury comments in the past.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM’s morning show, Kokrokoo, Mr Pratt said the remarks of NAPO could harm the party’s electoral chances, specifically in Keta and the Volta Region as a whole.

What NAPO said

On Friday, December 3, 2021, the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South who also doubles as the Energy minister, Dr Mathhew Opoku Prempeh, in an interview on Asempa FM’s political show Eko si sen, threatened to lead a demonstration in Kumasi if the then finance minister, Ken Ofori Atta, dared to include the Keta Sea defence project in the 2022 budget.

This was after a tidal wave had destroyed homes, and properties and displaced residents of Keta.

The minister’s statement came on the back of the minority’s disappointment with the finance minister, for failing to capture mitigation measures for residents of some communities in the Anloga District, Keta and Ketu south municipalities affected by the tidal wave disaster.
