Mr Abdul Jalil Abdul Rahman, popularly known as “Awudu” has picked up a Member of Parliament (MP) form of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the Ayawaso North constituency.
Mr Abdul Rahman who has lived in the constituency all his life told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that he picked the form because he knows the challenges facing the citizenry particularly, the youth who are the future generation of the country.
He said as a man who has the progress of the youth in the constituency at heart, he provides scholarship facilities for junior high school graduates who are brilliant but needy in his established school known as “Ultimate Business College” to enroll in senior high level education.
“People need help to further their education but the fund is not available, however, the school supports individuals in vocational skills and supports senior high school graduates who wish to write remedial exams”, he said.
Mr Abdul Rahman said he would establish a cooperative society that would provide loans to support the basic needs and small scale business of members of the constituency.
“I only promise things I can deliver and this society will be funded from my own pocket to support the people’s businesses and the needy,” he said.
He said he has also established a “Health for all” programme that would occasionally require a cleanup exercise and health screening for members of the constituency as well as an aged support programme that would allow the aged o be supported monthly in basic necessities.
The aspiring MP also said he has plans to develop a youth empowerment programme to support and encourage the youth who have special interest in sports especially football to achieve their dreams.
He said although, the incumbent MP for the constituency is a good person, the constituents want to have an MP who is down to earth, easily approachable and often available to listen to them in times of problems, adding that he is that person and deserves the chance.
Mr Eric Agbenyo, NDC General Secretary, Ayawaso North Constituency said although each of the aspiring candidates have picked their forms with the exception of Dr Mustafa Ahmed, the incumbent MP, the nomination forms is still opened to anyone who is interested until September 10.
Mr Agbenyo said the fact that one picks a nomination form does not mean the person is qualified to contest as a candidate unless the person goes through a regional and national vetting.
