Agambilla elected gets the nod for Bolga

Bolgatanga, Aug 9, GNA - Dr Gesika Adombire Agambilla was on Monday elected the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Bolgatanga Central Constituency for the 2004 General Election. Dr Agambilla polled 81 votes as against 35 votes obtained by Mr Rex Asanga, Official of the Catholic Relief Services in Bolgatanga, at the Party's primaries in Bolgatanga.

One hundred and twenty-one delegates cast their votes but five of the ballots were rejected for various reasons including double thumb-printing, in the election that was supervised by Mr Adam Iddrisu, Regional Director of the Electoral Commission.

Dr Agambilla, who is Deputy Minister of Ports, Harbours and Railways, urged supporters of the NPP to rally behind him to enable the Party to win the seat from the People's National Convention.

He said the NPP could not afford to miss the third opportunity to win the seat and appealed to the electorate to vote massively for him. Dr Agambilla urged NPP supporters to burry their differences and unite towards the success of the Party.

Mr Rex Asanga said the election results was "the decision of God" and urged his supporters and those of Dr Agambilla to put aside the rivalry that characterized the pre-primary polls, and vote massively for the Party in the 2004 General Elections.
