Aggrieved Bantama NPP members smoke peace pipe

Kumasi, July 2, GNA - The aggrieved members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of the Bantama Constituency, who threatened to quit the Party, have rescinded their decision, Mr Daniel Yaw Gyamfi, Constituency Chairman, has announced.

Consequently, they have pledged their unflinching support for the Party to enable it to chalk a landslide victory in the constituency in Election 2004.

Mr Gyamfi said this when the party members embarked on a four-hour clean-up exercise at the Suntreso Hospital in Kumasi on Thursday. The members numbering about 20 had threatened to quit the Party as a result of what they described as lack of transparency during the Constituency's Delegates' Congress where the Executives were elected about a month ago.

They alleged that the names of some polling agents were intentionally removed from the photo album used to conduct the elections so as to prevent them from casting their votes.

Mr Gyamfi said that at a meeting with the aggrieved members last week, all differences were thrashed out, adding, "now that we have put our house in order, we will strategise to poll 98 per cent of the popular votes in the constituency in the December Elections". He expressed gratitude to the members for changing their stance and advised all NPP members not to hesitate to bring suggestions that would ensure the way forward for the Party.

Nana K. Bonsu, one of the aggrieved members, stressed the need for all Party members to work with unity so as to retain the NPP in power during the elections.

He commended the Constituency Executives for their efforts to resolve all impasses that existed among some members, adding that, the Party needed committed people to ensure its way forward.
