Agona West NDC denies massive defection to NPP

The Constituency Executives and Communication team of the Agona West branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have categorically denied that some members and some executives have defected to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to the executives, the story was baseless and a calculated attempt to throw dust into the eyes of supporters and sympathizers of the party in the constituency.

Mr Emmanuel Kwesi Lincoln, Constituency Chairman of the party who made this known at a press conference at Agona Swedru on Monday, said Mr Exponoza Koomson who was mentioned as constituency executive was untrue.

Mr Lincoln said Mr Koomson was a member of Convention Peoples Party (CPP) and defected to NDC in 2009 after the party had come to power.

He said about one and half months ago, Mr Koomson announced his defection to NPP for reasons best known to him.

According to the Constituency Chairman, Mr Koomson never held any top position in the Constituency or at the regional level and described the story carried by some media in Accra as fabricated and malicious.

He said Mr Koomson had now realized that there was total cohesion in the Agona West constituency especially between Mr Charles Obeng-Inkoom, Parliamentary Candidate and Mr Samuel Oppong who contested the primaries and lost the election.

Mr Lincoln said the opposition NPP in the Agona West had seen that the “Better Ghana Agenda” set by Professor John Evans Atta Mills was working to perfection and knew that defeat would by all means be visited on them in the December 2012 elections.

He called on NDC supporters in the Agona West to remain calm and work hard to ensure victory for the party to continue the good work.**
