Akim Swedru Constituency NPP elects executives

Akim Achiase, Sept. 16, GNA - The Akim Swedru Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Friday elected a nine-member executive to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years at a delegates' congress held at Akim Achiase.

Mr Henry Kwaku Addae, the incumbent chairman retained his position when his only challenger, Mr Darko Asiedu, stepped down minutes before the election.

The post of First Vice-Chairman went to Mr John K. Obeng, Second Vice-Chairman, Mr Kwabena Ampofo, Secretary, Mr Asare Danso and Mr Edward Asante Abrokwa, Assistant Secretary. Other officers elected were: Organiser, Yaw Owusu, Youth Organizer, Mr Jacob Addin, Women's Organizer, Miss Salome Abrokwa and Treasurer, Mr Samuel Yaw Antwi Berko.

In an address, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Mr Felix Owusu-Agyapong, reminded the executives that the success of the party in the 2008 election would depend to a large extent on them and urged them to work extra hard.

He advised them to be disciplined at all times and to abide by the party's constitution in the discharge of their duties. Mr Owusu Agyapong who is also the MP for Akyem Swedru, urged the executives to hold meetings, at least, every three months and plan strategies towards the mobilization of more people to join the party. The Eastern Regional Chairman of the NPP, Nana Kofi Adi Ankamah, reminded them of the task ahead and urged them to live up to expectation.

He appealed to them to mount an extensive campaign to educate the people on the positive achievements of the government so far to enable the people to appreciate efforts being made to improve their living conditions.

The Birim South District Chief Executive, Mr Frank Kwame Busumtwe, advised the executive to guard against in fighting and other negative tendencies that might divide their ranks. 16 Sept. 05
