Akua Donkor's Death: What we know so far

The late Akua Donkor of the Ghana Freedom Party

Ghanaians woke up to the shocking news of Akua Donkor’s death.

The Founder and Flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party was reported dead in the early hours of Tuesday, October 29, 2024, with the news flooding social media.

She died at the age of 83.

Cause of death

According to senior broadcast journalist, Ernest Frimpong Manso, who confirmed the news in an interview on TV3 New Day on Tuesday morning, the late Akua Donkor was diagnosed with respiratory issues at the Nsawam Hospital.

He added that she was referred to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital) Intensive Care Unit, where she died around 10 pm on Monday, October 28, 2024.

Early reports

On his X page, early reports from Dr Kofi Amoa-Abban, a Ghanaian oil mogul and CEO of Rigworld Group at 2am on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, confirmed news of Akua Donkor’s death.

He posted a picture of the politician and 2024 presidential candidate with the caption ‘R.I.P Akua Donkor’.

Tributes

Tributes for the late Akua Donkor are trickling in since news of her passing was announced.

Kafui Dey, a GBC broadcast journalist in his tribute said “Rest well. You will be remembered for your persistence and determination.”

Other social media users have also expressed their condolences to the family of the late Akua Donkor.

Presidential bid

Akua Donkor, who was number 3 on the ballot paper for the 2024 general elections, was notable for her promises to prioritize the remuneration of farmers, provide free vehicles for journalists, and offer duty-free port services for the clearance of goods.
