Akufo-Addo deserves to be lifetime president – DCE

The Techiman North District Chief Executive Hon Peter Mensah has commended President Akufo-Addo for “showing leadership” in the face of the outbreak of the coronavirus and asked Ghanaians to vote massively for President in 2020 elections to enable him implement his vision for the country and consolidate the unprecedented economic gains made under his Presidency.

Hon Peter Mensah believes the measures put in place in dealing with the outbreak have helped in preventing an escalation of the outbreak compared to other countries especially the United Kingdom. He opined should the UK had taken steps and done what Ghana did, they would have prevented the situation they are in today adding that President Akufo-Addo deserves to be lifetime president.

Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo has earned praise from the African community on social media following his announcement that his government will foot the water and water bills of all Ghanaians for the months of April, May and June.

In an address to the nation, the Head of State announced that no one in Ghana will have his electricity bill disconnected for the next three months for lack of payment.

“The Ghana Water Company Limited and the Electricity Company of Ghana have been directed to ensure the stable supply of water and electricity during this period. There will be no disconnection of supply.”

These measures announced by President Akufo-Addo are aimed at cushioning the public, especially the vulnerable families, from effects of the coronavirus pandemic. “Further, the government will absorb the water bills for all Ghanaians,” he added.

President Nana Akufo-Addo also announced a three month tax holiday for health workers for Ghana starting April 2020.

Hon Peter Mensah said, “A period like this that he can come out and be supporting us like this COVID 19- I don’t see any African President doing this apart from Nana Nana Addo. So I believe we need to clap for him every morning when we wake up. The way people go to church and clap, they need to be clapping for the President like that because he has done so marvelously well” .

“So marvellous that he can really go down like care about his people…thinking about giving them free this, free that. He came with this free education thing and must people never understand that but it is working”.

Infrastructural development

According to the DCE, a lot of social interventions had been introduced, including the famous free Senior High School policy to ameliorate the sufferings of Ghanaians, while many Ghanaians had been employed in the public sector adding that President Akufo-Addo Deserves to be lifetime President .

“Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has worked hard over the last three years to deliver a substantial number of remarkable achievements which we are going to consolidate going forward,” he said.

He indicated Ghanaians will be eternally grateful to the Akufo-Addo government for its social interventions such as the One District, One Factory, NABCO, Planting for Food and Jobs and the Creation of new regions and districts.

President’s 40 major Achievements

He added that the suffering of our workers has been reduced by policies implemented by the President.

Some of those policies include:

1. Creation of over 350,000 jobs in the public sector alone and much more in the private sector.

2. Reduction in the cost of electricity – compared with the 45% annual average increase between 2013-2016.

3. In the midst of COVID-19, free electricity for lifeline consumers and 50% reduction for all others for the months of April, May and June 2020.

4. In the midst of COVID-19, free water to all Ghanaians for the months of April, May and June.

5. Abolished the payment of utility bills by students.

6. Restoration of macroeconomic stability

• Inflation down

• Growth up

• Interest rates down

• Exchange rate depreciation down.

7. Domestic production and

supply of personal protective equipment for our health workers.

8. Reducing Import Duties- by 50%.

9. Reduction and abolition of 15 taxes.

10. Planting for food and Jobs- subsidized fertilizer, seeds and extension services to farmers.

11. Restoring the cancelled Teacher Training Allowances.

12. Restoring the cancelled Nursing Training Allowances.

13. Restoring cancelled allowances to Arabic Instructors.

14. Increasing the peace keeping allowances of the military and police from $31 to $35 per day.

15. Paying arrears of teachers who were paid only 3 months salary for over 2 years of work.

16. Doubling the capitation grant.

17. Absorbing the cost of WASSCE registration.

18. Major increase in scholarship awards to students by the Scholarship Secretariat.

19. Increased efficiency of government service delivery through the digitization of government services such as Passport Application, DVLA, Registrar General, NHIS Renewal, ECG power purchases, etc.

20. Protecting the deposits of millions of over 14 million Ghanaians by saving the banking system from collapse.

21. Saving the National Health Insurance Scheme from collapse through a drastic reduction in the outstanding arrears to service providers.

22. Massive Payment of arrears to road contractors.

23. Over 600 vehicles and three helicopters and other equipment for the police service.

24. One district, one factory – on course.

25. Revival of Anglogold Ashanti.

26. Revival of Ghana Publishing Company.

27. Revival of Ghana Post.

28. Revival of our Railways.

29. National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program (NEIP).

30. One Village One Dam – on course.

31. One constituency, one ambulance.

32. Emergency medical deliveries through drones (the largest such program in the world).

33. Nation Builders Corps – 100,000 graduates employed.

34. Absorbing the fees for postgraduate medical training.

35. Restoring research allowances in tertiary institutions.

36. Employing persons with disabilities to man 50% of all our toll booths.

37. Implementation of Free Senior High School Education.

38. Ghana card, Government again, in its 2016 Manifesto, promised to get Ghana working through digitization of the economy.

39. NHIS debt clearance, The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, revealed in April 2018, that his administration is reviving the strength of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), which, under the Mahama government, was being strangled by debt.

40. Special Prosecutor’s Office, A special Prosecutor’s Office tasked with the sole mandate of investigating and prosecuting public officials was announced by the President and Vice President in 2017.
