President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has nominated Joyce Adjoa Agyeiwaa as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Birim Central Municipal Assembly.

A letter issued by the president's representative at the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, on May 3, 2024, which was sighted by GhanaWeb, indicated that Adjoa Agyeiwaa's appointment was in accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).

The members of the Birim Central Municipal Assembly are now expected to approve the president's nomination.

The letter, which was addressed to the Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong, directed him to liaise with the Regional Electoral Commission to conduct the confirmation process for the nominated MCE.

It can be recalled that President Akufo-Addo revoked the appointment of Victoria Adu as MCE for the Birim Central Municipal Assembly in March 2024.

Victoria Adu was instructed to hand over her duties to the regional minister, to take oversight responsibility for the municipal assembly until her successor was appointed.

"I wish to inform you that, in accordance with Article 243(3)(b) of the Constitution and Section 20(3)(b) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), His Excellency the President of the Republic has revoked your appointment as Municipal Chief Executive.

"Consequently, you are to hand over your duties to the Hon. Regional Minister, who is requested to take oversight responsibility for the Municipal Assembly pending the confirmation of a new Municipal Chief Executive," part of the letter, signed by Osei Bonsu Amoah, the former Minister of Local Government, read.
