Akufo-Addo using malicious prosecutions of party functionaries to gag us – NDC

National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo

The National Democratic Congress has taken exception to some ‘frivolous’ charges leveled against its National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo following some utterances in a leaked tape purported to be his voice.

Even though Mr. Ofosu Ampofo and his ‘cohorts’ have been queried by the CID and is set to appear in court Tuesday, April 4, 2019, the party has refuted some charges that have been leveled against him.

In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, they have described the charges as ‘illogical’ conjectures by their political opponents to tarnish the reputations of their officials and also gag them from constructively criticizing government.

They, however, believe that the prosecution of the chairman and other officials of the party form “part of a grand scheme by an increasingly intolerant and vindictive Nana Akufo-Addo to gag the political opposition.”

The NDC has also alleged that because President Akufo-Addo has been unable to achieve his numerous campaign promises in almost three years of his tenure, he “devised a scheme to use malicious prosecutions of NDC functionaries to curry favour with the electorate”

However, in the leaked audio, the voice that sounds similar to Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo’s told party communicators that “we’re going to take her [EC boss] to the cleaners.”

“As for the EC chair, we must wage a relentless war on this EC chair. Me, she doesn’t want to see my face,” Ofosu-Ampofo allegedly said at the meeting which took place after the Ayawaso by-election.
