Akufo-Addo wanted OSP to sustain lies about Mahama through Airbus probe – NDC MP

The Member of Parliament for Builsa South says the clearing of former President John Dramani Mahama of any wrongdoing, including bribery in the Airbus scandal, is not surprising.

Dr. Clement Apaak, who worked as a presidential staffer under former President Mahama, said the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which the former president represents as a flagbearer for the 2024 elections, knew the entire process was an orchestration to tarnish his image.

"Before the Office of Special Prosecutor initiated a probe into the scandal, the USA and UK courts had cleared Mr. Mahama of any wrongdoing," he said.

He noted that even in the face of strong evidence to clear Mahama, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ordered an investigation to be conducted with the sole aim of having the OSP sustain the lie against Mahama that he was corrupt and had accepted a bribe in the Airbus scandal.

In a statement, Dr. Apaak maintained that Mahama has never been corrupt, is not corrupt, and would never be corrupt despite the maligning by his political opponents.

He has therefore asked President Akufo-Addo, whom he tagged as the ‘Mother Serpent of Corruption,’ and his appointees to prepare themselves for investigations into all the numerous cases of corruption recorded under the NPP government.

Read the statement he shared on X below:

"We never had a doubt that John Dramani Mahama did no wrong in the Airbus matter. Indeed, the investigations conducted in the USA and the UK into the saga never faulted John Dramani Mahama.

"Yet Akufo-Addo elected to cause him to be investigated by the OSP to sustain the lie that John Dramani Mahama is corrupt. Well, it is now clear that John Dramani Mahama is not corrupt, was never corrupt, and would never be corrupt.

"The Mother Serpent of Corruption and his appointees should be in readiness to subject themselves to investigations for all the allegations of corruption leveled against them. Let no one cry of political witch-hunting when the day comes. The day of accountability will surely come."
