Tamale, August 6, GNA - Alhaji Mustapha Ali Iddris, Northern Regional Minister has warned District Chief Executives (DCE's) and District Coordinating Directors (DCD's) against being lackadaisical attitude to work.
He said it had come to the notice of the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) that some DCE's had been vacating their posts for long periods during which they were either found in the Tamale Metropolis or even travel outside the region without notifying the regional office.
Alhaji Iddris gave the warning at a meeting with DCE's, DCD's and other officials of the RCC in Tamale on Saturday.
He said by their attitude to work, the DCE's were virtually leaving their work in the hands of the DCD's, saying that this was not good enough as the districts needed their political direction.
The Regional Minister said reports reaching him also showed that some of the DCE's were fond of going around boasting that they knew how they were appointed and therefore nobody could do anything to them. Alhaji Iddris reminded the DCE's that they were under the supervision of the RCC that henceforth the RCC would intensify its monitoring role in the districts and would pay unannounced visits to check on the activities of the DCE's.
He said the RCC would be involved in the periodic appraisal of DCE's and therefore asked them to improve upon their performance in order not to be found wanting.
He urged the DCE's to constantly keep the RCC abreast of any incidences that were likely to disturb the peace and security of their areas, adding that any potential trouble spot needed to be quickly addressed.
He said the region had suffered a lot from conflicts and now needed peace so that resources could be channeled to its development and not on the maintenance of peace and security.
The Regional Minister cautioned DCD's against undermining their Chief Executives and rather urged them to give them the necessary support and cooperation to enable them administer their districts effectively and bring development to the people.
