Alhaji Mubarak elected NDC PC for Asawase

Kumasi, March 15, GNA - Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, a Development Planner, was on Tuesday elected as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Asawase constituency. Alhaji Mubarak, 34, polled 149 votes out of the total 237 votes cast to beat his only challenger, Alhaji Awudu Ariff, the Deputy National Organiser of the NDC who polled 88 votes. The primary became necessary following the death of Dr Adamu Gibiril, the NDC MP who died last month after a short illness at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

Mr Bede Ziedeng, acting General Secretary of the NDC, called on party members to be committed, dedicated and to remain resolute to the course of the party to enable the party chalk a landslide victory in the bye-election.

The bye-election is slated for 21 April.

He cautioned the electorate to be wary of what he described as attempts by the New Patriotic Party to win the Asawase seat by "hook or crook" as they did in previous bye-elections.

Mr Ziedeng said the performance of the NDC in the last December general elections was an ample testimony that Ghanaians were looking for a change.
