Mr Serebour Quaicoe, Upper West Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), said all was set for the District Level Elections (DLEs) tomorrow September 1, 2015.
He said the Commission had been ready in all aspects of the elections for the past two weeks and that what they were expecting was nothing short of a smooth election.
Mr Quaicoe, who said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Wa on Monday, disclosed that 765 candidates comprising 727 males and 38 females were contesting the 270 electoral areas in the region.
For the Unit Committee category, he said a total of 1,930 candidates made up of 1,822 males and 108 females out of which 90 were unopposed.
He called on the general public to turn up early on the election day to cast their votes, adding that they should also avoid anything that could hinder the election process and bring about trouble.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Mensah Duku, Upper West Regional Police Commander, said a total of 1,291 security personnel drawn from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, the Ghana Prisons Service and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority have been deployed to protect the security of the elections.
He urged all to feel free to come out and participate in the election of their local level representatives and that they should be ready to report to the security personnel present at the polling stations if they suspect any foul play by anybody.
