Some supposed supporters of the National Democratic Congress have reportedly massed up at the head office of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) awaiting the arrival of the newly appointed Acting Commissioner-General, Anthony Sarpong.

According to a report by Channel One TV, the group, largely made up of macho men, are protesting and demanding the immediate revocation of Mr. Sarpong’s appointment.

President John Dramani Mahama, who is still in the process of forming his government, announced the appointment of Anthony Sarpong on January 21, 2025, to oversee Ghana’s tax collection and revenue mobilization efforts.

An accomplished accountant and auditor who has previously served as a Partner with the globally acclaimed auditing and consultancy firm KPMG, Mr. Sarpong’s appointment has been met with some pushback within the National Democratic Congress.

Some aggrieved members of the ruling party have raised concerns about Mr. Sarpong’s loyalty, citing his alleged ties with the opposition New Patriotic Party.

Mr. Sarpong is expected to assume duty today, Monday, January 27, 2025. Meanwhile, videos shared by Channel One TV show a growing security presence at the head office of GRA amidst the crowd of alleged NDC supporters.
