Former Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has come to the defense of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), affirming his comparison of President Akufo-Addo's achievements to those of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
He argues that NAPO's remarks reflect his ideological stance, stating on Peace FM on Wednesday that he believes NAPO's analysis is correct.
He pointed to Akufo-Addo's achievements, notably the successful implementation of free SHS, as evidence.
"If you do the analysis, what Napo said was right. What they did to Nkrumah is what they are doing to Akufo-Addo. He has listened to the plight of Ghanaians and worked towards it, achieving results that every Ghanaian wants. People wanted free SHS to end, but it is still working. We should not castigate Napo," he stated.
Dr. Prempeh's comments have sparked controversy, with critics accusing him of downplaying Nkrumah's contributions. However, he disagrees, praising Akufo-Addo's responsiveness to public concerns and his tangible achievements.
Despite concerns that his comments could impact the NPP's prospects in the pending December general elections, Allotey Jacobs remains steadfast in his support.
"President Akufo-Addo has listened to the plight of Ghanaians, worked towards it, and achieved results that every Ghanaian wants," he reiterated.
During a recent address to party supporters in Kumasi, Dr. Opoku Prempeh further lauded President Akufo-Addo, claiming, "Not even Kwame Nkrumah developed Ghana like him."
