Alumni congratulate Nduom, wishes Apraku good luck

Accra, Dec. 21, GNA - The American Field Service (AFS-Ghana) Alumni Association on Friday congratulated Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom for his election as the flag bearer of the Convention People's Party (CPP), saying his victory had brought freshness in Ghanaian politics and would deepen multi-party democratic governance.

A statement signed by Mr. Kafui Ameh, Communications Director, AFS-Ghana Alumni Association said: " It is also a source of great pride and honour to the AFS International fraternity both at home and abroad. The AFS is a cross-cultural educational programme that has been sponsoring the youth for over 150 countries for training and exposure for the last 60 years.

Ghana joined the programme in 1967 and Dr. Nduom, who is also the Member of Parliament for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) and former Minister of Public Sector Reform participated in the 1980s. The statement said: " Dr Nduom has proved since his student days to be humble, responsible, sensitive and responsive to other people's and the community's needs".

" As a corporate entrepreneur, Assembly man, Member of Parliament, and Minister of State, he has always demonstrated a spirit of discipline, hard work, dedication, determination, distinction and patriotism characteristic of the AFS programme", it added.

The Association pledged to further support him with prayers to enable him to fight the greater battle ahead with the other political parties, adding "With the Almighty God on your side, you can achieve success and emerge the ultimate winner and become the next President to take Ghana to greater heights.

The statement also expressed goodwill to Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, Member of Parliament for Offinso-North, who was also an AFS participant on his aspirations to become the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and wished him the best of luck at the NPP National congress on Saturday.

"What Ghana needs now are visionary and transformational leaders, and the AFS International programme seems to have prepared participants for this crucial moment", it said.

According to the statement, Dr. Apraku has proven himself capable in various leadership and ministerial positions and has been serving creditably as Africa Representative on the reputable AFS International Board of Trustees.

The Association mentioned some bright and industrious former AFS-Ghana students as Mr Joe Baidoe-Ansah, Minister of Trade, Industry, Presidential Special Initiative and Private Sector Development, Dr. Setri Nyomi, President of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches, Mrs. Leonora Agyarko Kyerematen, Executive Secretary and Co-ordinator of the National Good Governance Programme.
