Ambassador and stalwart of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sampee Yalley says he is committed and loyal to the cause of affiliated media network, Radio Gold.

Defending himself from a worrying developing situation where some NDC leaders are said to be boycotting the radio station, Mr. Sampee Yalley staked his neck out that he will not turn his back to outfits that have helped shape public opinion by providing relevant information.

“I was contacted late. But I managed to be here. I flew by aeroplane from Takoradi to be here,” he said Saturday on Radio Gold’s news analysis show, “Alhaji &Alhaji.

Two other radio stations have called me, but I told them I can’t come. I was emphatic I have a programme at Radio Gold.”

Ambassador Sampee Yalley was a late substitution to the panelists set-up when regular panelists indicated they were not going to show up.

Regular panelist, Kwesi Pratt Jnr was livid with anger that co-panelists did not offer any convincing reasons for not showing up on Alhaji &Alhaji. Specifically, Mr. Pratt was disgusted that some NDC gurus have time to participate in programmes on other radio stations to the neglect of those on Radio Gold.

Underlining his unflinching support for Alhaji & Alhaji to become relevant, Mr. Yalley appealed to the regular panelists to endeavour to attend the show as they “have cultivated a sizeable loyal audience across the globe.”

He added, “Alhaji & Alhaji is not only listened to in Ghana. There are many listeners outside. So we need to make it work. The production team has to sit down and take proper content and good panelists.”

There are growing concerns that Alhaji & Alhaji is losing audience to rivals Joy FM and Citi FM owing to some deficit in quality and depth of panelists as well as the selection of content.

The weekend news analysis show used to be the toast of town and reference point for critical analysis, relevant information and deciphering policy alternatives.
