Agogoso (Ash), Aug. 1, GNA - Mr Akwasi Afriyie Dante, Member of Parliament (MP), for the Atwima-Mponua constituency has become the latest sitting Mp to lose the right to contest the Election 2004 on the party's ticket. Mr Isaac Kwame Asiamah, a 28-year-old researcher, defeated him at the party's primaries held at Agogoso on Friday,. In a hotly contested election, Mr Asiamah polled 75 votes to beat the incumbent Dante, who had 71 votes. Two other contestants, Mr Thomas Nyerese, a tutor at Osei Kyeretwie Secondary School in Kumasi and Mr Kofi Badu, a lawyer, were disqualified at the vetting.
Mr Asiamah, who is also policy analyst of the NPP, thanked the party executive in the constituency as well as the delegates for their confidence in him. He pledged to tap the rich experience of Mr Dante to help move the constituency forward.
Mr Dante , pledged his support for Mr Asiamah and also called on the people to give him their support so as to develop the district. Mr Osei Assibey Antwi, First Regional Vice-chairman of the party called for unity among all supporters to enable the party to win the December elections. Mr Asare Baffour, Constituency Chairman, commended the two contestants for their political maturity and asked them to combine their forces to develop the district.
