Philip Fiifi Buckman, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwesimintsim in the Western Region, has criticized the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration for neglecting the region's development over the past eight years.
According to the MP, the only project completed under the NPP in the region was a sculpture of President Nana Akufo-Addo at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital.
Speaking in an interview on Onua TV on Wednesday, January 7, 2025, the MP pledged a renewed focus on completing unfinished projects in the region.
“When former President Mahama visited Kwesimintsim, I told him there was no significant project in the Western Region completed by the NPP government, apart from Akufo-Addo’s statue. We are committed to completing all projects that were started but left unfinished,” onuaonline.com quoted him to have said.
He disclosed that President John Dramani Mahama, who has resumed office, is fully aware of the stalled projects in the region.
He emphasized that Mahama's recent tour of Takoradi highlighted pressing challenges, including poor infrastructure at the harbor, railway systems, and road networks.
“President Mahama toured Takoradi and saw our challenges firsthand, our harbor, railways, roads, and non-functional institutions. With 15 of the 17 constituencies in the Western Region now represented by us, we plan to unite MPs like Hon. Boamah of Effia and Kobby of Takoradi to advocate for the region’s development,” he added.
“Our resources earned us the title, ‘The best comes from the West,’ yet we’ve been taken for granted due to poor leadership. This time, we will speak with one voice to demand what we deserve.
“Our road networks in Kwesimintsim and other communities are in deplorable conditions. We need leaders who deliver results, not just occupy seats.”
