Approved, Sworn In, Vetted: Breakdown of President Mahama's ministerial nominees

Parliament has so far approved 12 out of the 42 ministerial nominees submitted by President John Dramani Mahama.

The approval follows thorough vetting by the Appointments Committee and extensive debate on the floor of Parliament between the Minority and Majority caucuses. They concluded that the nominees possess the expertise and leadership qualities necessary to manage their respective ministries effectively.

Several of the nominees have yet to undergo the vetting process, while others have already been sworn in by the president to assume their respective roles.

Here is a complete breakdown of the dynamics surrounding the ministerial appointments:

Sworn In

On January 22, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama swore in six ministerial nominees into their respective roles after Parliament approved their nominations.

In a brief ceremony held at the Jubilee House, the ministers took their oath of office, expressing their readiness to deliver on their mandates.

The ministers sworn in include:

1. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Minister of Finance

2. Dr. Dominic Ayine as Attorney General and Minister of Justice

3. John Abdulai Jinapor as Minister of Energy and Green Transition

4. Haruna Iddrisu as Minister of Education

5. Eric Opoku as Minister of Food and Agriculture

6. Governs Kwame Agbodza as Minister of Roads and Highways

Approved

Parliament has approved six additional ministerial nominees following the approval and subsequent swearing-in of the first batch of six ministers.

The approved nominees are:

1. Abla Dzifa Gomashie as Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts-designate

2. Emelia Arthur as Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development-designate

3. George Opare Addo as Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment-designate

4. Ahmed Ibrahim as the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs-designate

5. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey as Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection-designate

6. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare as Minister for Trade, Industry, and Agribusiness-designate

Vetted

On Thursday, January 23, 2025, the 11-member Appointments Committee vetted the first batch of four regional ministerial nominees out of 16.

They are:

1. Ali Adolf John as the Northern Regional Minister-designate

2. John Kwadwo Gyapong as Oti Regional Minister-designate

3. James Gunu as the Volta Regional Minister-designate

4. Rita Akosua Awatey as the Eastern Regional Minister-designate

Yet to be vetted

Another batch of ministerial nominees will face the Appointments Committee to undergo the vetting procedure.

Leading the line of Friday’s vetting is Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, the Minister of Interior-designate.

Other nominees are Ibrahim Tia as North East Regional Minister-designate, Dr. Frank Amoakohene as Ashanti Regional Minister-designate, and Akamugri Atanga Donatus as Upper East Regional Minister-designate.

Meanwhile, ministerial nominees who are yet to be vetted are:

1. Charity Gardiner as the Ahafo Regional Minister-designate

2. Salisu Be-Awuribe Issifu as the Savannah Regional Minister-designate

3. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo as the Greater Accra Regional Minister-designate

4. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh as the Minister of Health-designate

5. Dr. Edward Omane Boamah as the Minister of Defence-designate

6. Joseph Bukari Nikpe as the Minister of Transport-designate

7. Kofi Iddie Adams as the Minister of Sports and Recreation-designate

8. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah as the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources-designate

9. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as the Minister of Foreign Affairs-designate

10. Samuel Nartey George as the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations-designate

11. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed as the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology-designate

12. Adjel Kenneth Gilbert as the Minister of Works, Housing and Water Resources-designate

13. Dr. Abdul-Rashid H. Pelpuo as the Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment-designate

14. Issifu Seidu as the Minister of State, Climate Change and Sustainability-designate
