Asabee outlines goals ahead of NPP special congress

Former Minister of Information and Member of Parliament Stephen Asamoah Boateng, who is one of the seven aspirants seeking to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has unveiled his plans ahead of the August 31 Special Electoral College of the party.

At a meeting with journalists in Accra on Thursday, August 7, Mr Asamoah Boateng, affectionately called Asabee, said his short-term goal is to ensure stability and progress within the NPP ahead of the 2016 General Elections.

“The long term goal is to seek a country that works to deliver to best practices,” he said.

He indicated that when given the nod as leader of the largest opposition party, he will put God in the center of every activity within the party.

Premised on “Refreshing Change”, Asabee’s campaign will “be a living testimony of God’s faithfulness to His people”, adding that he will concentrate on the grassroots of the party as he is a symbol of hope for young people.

He explained the letters of his sobriquet as standing for Affable, Simple, Accessible, Bold, Enterprising and a man of Excellence (ASABEE).

Number 2 on the ballot paper, the Former Deputy Tourism Minister will face competition from Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Alan Kyeremanten, Joe Ghartey, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, Francis Addai Nimoh and Kofi Osei Ameyaw during the College, which will expel two from contesting the party's presidential primary on October 18.
